“Aham Brahmasmi” (I am Brahman) finds deep symbolism in the Ashwattha (sacred fig) tree described in the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita.
The Ashwattha, with roots above and branches below, represents the cosmic reality where Brahman is the source and the world is its manifestation.
Just as every leaf and branch arises from one unseen root, the individual self (Atman) arises from the same ultimate reality—Brahman.
Realizing “Aham Brahmasmi” is like recognizing that the essence nourishing the entire Ashwattha tree also flows within oneself.
Thus, the Ashwattha becomes a living metaphor for non-duality, teaching that the self and the supreme are not separate, but one.

“अहं ब्रह्मास्मि” (मैं ही ब्रह्म हूँ) का गहरा प्रतीकात्मक संबंध उपनिषदों और भगवद् गीता में वर्णित अश्वत्थ (पीपल) वृक्ष से जुड़ा है।
अश्वत्थ वृक्ष, जिसकी जड़ें ऊपर और शाखाएँ नीचे हैं, उस ब्रह्मांडीय सत्य को दर्शाता है जहाँ ब्रह्म मूल स्रोत है और संसार उसकी अभिव्यक्ति।
जिस प्रकार वृक्ष की हर शाखा और पत्ता एक अदृश्य मूल से उत्पन्न होता है, उसी प्रकार आत्मा (आत्मन्) भी उसी परम सत्य—ब्रह्म—से उत्पन्न होती है।
“अहं ब्रह्मास्मि” की अनुभूति यह समझने के समान है कि जो चेतना पूरे अश्वत्थ वृक्ष का पोषण करती है, वही चेतना हमारे भीतर भी प्रवाहित है।
इस प्रकार अश्वत्थ अद्वैत का जीवंत रूपक बनता है, जो सिखाता है कि जीवात्मा और परमात्मा अलग नहीं, बल्कि एक ही हैं।
